Crandall’s Plumbing Heating & AC recommends that our customers install a whole-home filtration system like HALO, EWS, or APEC Futura because these systems provide drinkable water to all fixtures throughout the home. These systems also will not require new water lines running to the exterior hose bibs, and the water is safe for all vegetation and washing clothes.
Water purification removes undesirable chemicals, contaminants, solids, and gases from contaminated water. The goal of this process is to produce water fit for your home. We feel water filtration systems are better solutions for your home than water softeners as they require less maintenance, are less expensive to install a new unit, and provide better overall water for your home.
Water softener systems are filtration systems that remove concentrations of calcium and magnesium that cause hard water. Water Softener systems use salt or potassium to do this and can, in most cases, cause issues with your water heaters anode rod, shortening the life of your water heater.
Magnesium anode rods work better in a home with soft water. Aluminum anode rods are appropriate for homes with hard water and a high PH. Zinc anode rods work best if a home is starting to smell like rotten eggs and is best for replacing water heaters that have already dissolved.
